Do You Need to Train to Failure?
Is training to failure necessary for muscle growth?
You do not need to take every set to absolute failure to build muscle. Sets performed close to failure are usually enough to recruit the fibers that matter for hypertrophy while producing less fatigue than grinding every set into the floor. Hard training matters; reckless training does not.
Key Takeaway
Training close to failure is sufficient for hypertrophy.
Actionable Tip
Stop most working sets about 1–3 reps before true failure.
